Spanish; Castilian. El mejor momento para la inseminacion con respecto a la ovulacion para obtener las mejores tasas de fecundacion se situa entre 6 y 12 horas antes de la ovulacion. Partiendo de esta base, es preferible que el intervalo entre dos IA o entre la ultima IA y la ovulacion no sobrepase las 12 a 18 horas. El efecto del intervalo de tiempo entre la inseminacion y la ovulacion es por tanto mas importante que el tiempo de conservacion del semen. Las inseminaciones tardias, 2 horas antes de la ovulacion, son totalmente fecundantes y no interrumpen el desarrollo de los huevos fecundados. En la cerda no es posible predecir el momento de la insminacion. Estudios realizados en 4 explotaciones precisan que el intervalo entre el inicio del celo y la ovulacion es de 34 a 45 horas. La ovulacion se situa en el ultimo tercio del perido de celo. Las cerdas con celos precoces deberian ser inseminadas mas tarde que las cerdas con celos tardios. Un estudio realizado con 76 nuliparas indica que la duracion media de su celo es de 53 horas y que la ovulacion se produce, como en las multiparas, en el ultimo tercio del celo. Se aconseja inseminar a las nuliparas 24 horas despues del inicio del celo y posteriormente cada 12 horas hasta que el celo finalice.
