The paper presents the results of the analysis of beech stands in 16 site units in Slovenia. The author ascertains that in these even, yet regarding their age extremely nonhomogenous stands, it is possible to establish the wood production capacity of stands with the help of the site index on the basis of stands which have already concluded their height growth. Apart from the wood production capacity of the sites which is estimated over the whole annual production, the paper also presents the density of the site according to the volume, the basal area, and the number trees. The quality structure of these stands is also dealt with. Concerning the development of the stands, the following items are studied in detail: the growth and height increment and the diameter increment. Tha analysis shows that the dimensional relationship between the top height of the stand and the breast height diameter of the trees, which are the basis for the top-height, they have a constant value within the site. This value varies considerably among the various sites.
