Effect of spur bud scales on flower differentiation inside the spur bud in apple tree.

In order to know the role of spur bud scales on flower differentiation inside the spur bud in apple tree, relationship between number of spur bud scales and size of spur bud, effect of spur leaves on spur bud scale development, and removal effect of outer bud scales on flower differentiation were investigated. No correlation existed between number of bud scales and size of spur bud except the Starkrimson cultivar. There was little difference in the number of spur bud scales between flower differentiated bud and flower non-differentiated bud.
