Effect of irrigation regime and water salinity on rice plant under lysimeter condition. 1.- Yield and yield components [Egypt].

A lysimeter experiment was conducted to study the effect of saline water and water depth of irrigation on grain yield and growth of rice. The conductivity of the irrigation waters were 0.4, 2.5, 4.5 and 7.0 mmhos/cm at a stable value of SAR which was 7.0. Water depth of irrigations were 3, 6 and 9 cms. It was found that the grain yield was significantly decreased due to the raising of water salinity level from 0.4 to 2.5 mmhos/cm and may be the cause for depression in the weight of 1000 grain. The decrease in the grain yield was highly significant at a salinity level of 4.5 and 7.0 mmhos/cm and may be attributed to the significant decrease in the number of tillers/plant, number of panicles/plant and 1000 grains weight. The grain yield of rice was significantly increased as the irrigation depth was raised from 3 to 6 and 9 cm. The increase amounted to 53.8 and 46.5%, respectively and may be attributed to the little increase in the number of tillers/plant, number of panicles/plant and the significant increase in the weight of 1000 grains. Straw yield was found to decrease with raising the water salinity level. Raising the irrigation depth had a significant effect on the straw yield of rice plant.
