The objective of this study was to identify sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L. Moench) lines which are stable and have a high grain yield. Thirteen lines were evaluated in six environments which included two ratoon crops at Muneng (1985-1987) and once at Mojosari (1986). A randomized block design with four replications was used to evaluate lines. Results indicated that varieties UPCA S1, Cempaka Putih and UPL SG5 were stable varieties. Their regression of coefficients of grain yield over environmental indeces were not significantly different from 1.0 and their deviation sum squares were not significantly different from 0. Mean grain yields over environments were 4.10, 3.89 and 3.87 t/ha, for varieties UPCA S1, Cempaka Putih and UPL SG5 respectively. Plant height and 100 grain weight of UPL SG5 were not significantly different from that of variety UPCA S1 but the maturity of UPL SG5 was slight longer. Cempaka Putih had a greater height and 100 grain weight than UPCA S1. When compared on grain yield means over environments, CS 110, CS 336 and CS 116 ranked first, second and third, and variety UPCA S1 ranked fourth. However, the CS lines significantly outyielded variety UPCA S1 at only two environments.
