Performance of exotic germplasm of blackgram [Bangladesh].

Four hundred blackgram germplasm received from Pakistan were evaluated during the cropping season 1985-86, at Regional Agricultural Research Station, Ishurdi. Seven yield contributing characters viz. days to flowering, days to maturity, plant height, number of pods/plant, number of seeds/pod, 100 seed weight and seed yield/plant were taken for initial selection of lines. The maximum variability was found for the character number of pods/plant (CV 40.32%) followed by seed yield/plant (CV 37.19%) whereas days to maturity and number of seeds/pod showed minimum variability (CV 4.78% and 6.71% respectively). The data indicated that the characters, number of pods/plant and seed yield/plant can be considered for selection towards desired direction.
