Mineralized N (NH4-N+NO3-N) from the OWMs could be ranked in the decreasing order as: costor meal>=Humus>activated sludge cake>=rise straw compost. Application of IF with OWM increased the mineralized N. In terms of pH change, CM and RSC increased the soil pH whereas HM decreased it and AS showed no effect on the soil reaction. In every case, decrease of soil pH and increase of the EC were more prominent in the IF+OWM treatments than those in the sole OWM ones. In the pot experiment, the efficiency of the OWM as the N-fertilizer could be placed in decreasing order as: IF>=CM>=HM>AS>=RSC with the magnitude in concordance with the rice growth and yield. By the method of application, basal or split application of IF in combination with CM showed more or less the same efficiency whereas these two combinations were slightly more effective than the sole CM treatment. There was no difference in the efficiency as N fertilizer of the HM among those three application methods. Split application of IF from the AS was better than IF+AS basal application and these two application methods were proved to be more efficient than the AS sole application. And split application of IF+RSC was clearly more effective than basal application of IF+RSC in both terms of rice growth and yield. AS and RSC increased the soil pH whereas CM showed no effect on the soil reaction. HM decreased the soil pH at more or less the same magnitude as the IF did. Application of OWM increased the soil EC slightly and the EC would be further increased by IF+OWM application. In any case, the soil EC never exceeded 1 mmho/cm. Long-term OWN application also increased organic matter and total nitrogen content of the soil.
