Yield and quality of staked tomatoes cv. Luca and Najwczesniejszy were investigated in field experiments. Nitrogen fertilization was applied at the rates of: 37,5; 75; 150; 375 and 450 kg/ha. Trickle irrigation at the amount of 2 l per plant was applied when soil suction reached 40 kPa. Irrigation significantly increased total and marketable yield but had no effet on early yield of fruits. Nitrogen fertilization up to the rate of 300 kg/ha resulted in significant increases of total and marketable yield on irrigated plots, whereas without irrigation yield increased up to to 150 kg/ha. Among tested cultivars, Luca produced higher early and marketable yield than cv. Najwczesniejszy. Irrigation increased weight and fruit firmness, but decreased dry matter content of fruits. Nitrogen fertilization increased dry matter content and total acidity, but decreased vitamin C content and active acidity of tomato fruits.
