This is a report of characteristics, in terms of yield and quality of essential oils, of high-yielding varieties of essential oil crops already developed in Indonesia, i.e., citronella grass (Cymbopogon nardus var. genuinus Hack.), vetiver (grass) (Vetiveria zizanioides Stapt.), patchouli (Pogostemon cablin Benth. and P. heyneanus Benth.), clove tree (Zyzygium aromaticum (L.) Merril et Perry), nutmeg Myristica fragrans Houtt), and ylang-ylang (Canangium odoratum Baill. forma macrophylla), including quality requirements of their oils for export standard. Some other species which are just at the beginning for being further developed are: ginger (Zingiber officinale Roscoe), black pepper (Piper nigrum Linn.), and the true cubebs (Piper cubeba Linn.), cassia (Cinnamomum burmanni Bl.), cinnamon (Cinnamomum zeylanicum Brein.), and a kitchen citronella grass (Cymbopogon nardus var. flexuosus Hack.). Other potential species to be developed in Indonesia are: cardamon (Elettaria cardamomum Maton), cumin (Cuminum cyminum Linn.), palmarosa (Cymbopogon martini Stapf.) and Clausena anisata Hook. (a plant which produces oil with anisa-like odour).
