In 1986-1987, exemplary experiments of application of ammonium chloride as nitrogen fertilizer were conducted in about 300 hectare of rice and corn in Heilongjiang province. Results revealed that ammonium chloride is significantly effective in increasing yields of both rice and corn. Applying the same dose of ammonium chloride and urea separately, ammonium chloride is more effective than urea for rice and as effective as urea for corn, hence ammonium chloride is better because it is low cost.
