The organophosphorus pesticide diazinon causes a remarkable decrease on the size of the NORs present in human acrocentric chromosomes when it is added to cultures in doses of 5 and 10 microgram/ml; with higher doses, 20 and 30 microgram/ml, this decrease is smaller, and it has a tendency to control values, perhaps this is due to the highest ratio of excipient (dimetylsulfoxide) in the culture medium.
