The superoxide dismutase (SOD) activity and constitutive isoenzymes of SOD and esterase (ER) in cotyledons and radicles of both glandless and glanded cottons were studied. The results showed that, in cotyledons, the average SOD activity of glandless cottons was lower than that of glanded cottons, with the SOD constitutive isoenzymes of the former having one band of small molecular protein more than that of the latter, in radicles, however, the difference in SOD activity between the two cotton types was not significant, and glandless type had two SOD isoenzyme bands which are more than the glanded type. There was no significant difference in ER constitutive isoenzyme bands between the two cotton types. The average SOD activity of cotyledons was lower than that of radicles, with the ER constitutive isoenzymes of the former having two bands of small molecular protein more than that of the latter.
