Studies on physio-morphological characters of three plantain varieties namely, Anaji, Dhalpoush and Kanthali undertaken at the Agricultural Research Station, Rajshahi, in 1981-82 revealed that these varieties were similar to each other with respect to plant height, base and top girth, length and width of lamina as well as number of suckers produced per plant. However, both Anaji and Dhalpoush were found to be shorter duration varieties which took 511 and 509 days as against 550 days taken by Kanthali from planting to harvesting. Kanthali produced the highest yield of 53.77 t/ha compared to 40.22 t/ha produced by Anaji and Dhalpoush respectively. The later two varieties produced longer fingers than Kanthali. The higher yield obtained in Kanthali was due to larger number of fingers per bunch (120.44) than that of Anaji (70.05) and Dhalpoush (72.35). The varieties were found to be different from each other in respect of shape, colour and arrangement of hands and fingers in the bunch.
