Two dimensional electrophoresis, in combination with a sensitive protein stain based on a reaction with silver ions, allowed differentiation of the 2 closely related potato cyst nematode species Globodera rostochiensis and G. pallida, Only 25 mu-g of protein was needed. The pathotypes Ro(,1) and Ro(,5) of G. rostochiensis differed in one protein that was present in Ro(,5) but absent from Ro(,1).
