An illustrated feature article describes the acitivites, personnel, teamwork, dedication, and professionalism of the Florida school district food service in Broward County as 1 of the best school food service programs in the country. This county represents the 8th largest school district in the US (127, 000 students in 150 schools), serving 70,000-75,000 meals and a la carte equivalents and 7000 breakfasts daily. The success of this operation is credited to its philosophy of promoting a "total good environment." Activities stress nutrition education and training, and include poster contests, the "citrus Carnival", state Youth Advisory Council trophies, field trips to grocery stores, and the promotion of a friendly school food service.
