Till now the investment requirements for animal houses have been ascertained relatively accurately. The effects of a housing system or of a special construction on productivity and animal health and on labour management of a farm have not been computed constantly. Therefore a calculation method is developed, aimed at computing a long-term cost-benefit-relation for the investment requirement of animal houses. Such a calculation scheme should present, with the complete registering of costs and yields of various housing systems and implementations, a decision supporting aid. In this way animal and yield criteria or evaluating general conditions should already be taken into account in the planning stage. Such an approach should further make decision making easier in the practical planning stage and also for comparing systems.
