Immunocytochemical and electron microscope methods were used in the description of morphological and ultrastructural characteristics and frequency of appearence of two endocrine cell types (D and I cells) in the upper and lower portions of jejunum and ileum of the sheep. The number of I and D cells in the jejunum and ileum of sheep was higher than in other mammals, including man. The location and the morphological and ultrastructural findings of both cell types are similar to those reported by other authors in the same endocrine cell types of mammals.
