Further characteristics of climate change in the Sahel Region and West Africa.
1998
Gompel B. van | Decleir H.
The recent sub-Saharan drought in the Sahel has been clearly defined, both in time and geographically, on the basis of the study of rainfall totals. In this paper it is shown how this drought can further be characterized by the study of the change in the frequency distribution of the rainfall amounts and the number of rainy days. This approach also leads to the identification of the Soudano-Sahel zone as a homogeneously responding climatic entity reacting differently from the surrounding areas such as the Guinean zone to the south.
