The author presents the results of studies on improving the fertility and productivity as well as on obtaining a higher level of plant production on light soils. The methods applied consisted of deep plowing, fertilizing with ashes from electric power plants and mines, organic fertilizing with barnyard manure and compost and applying of magnesium. Productivity of the lightest sandy soils, constituting some 29.4% of all soils in Poland, was only around 35% of the productivity of the best first class soils. Increasing the productivity of farms with light soils depends on supplying such farms with suitable means of production.
