A lepidopterofauna da ilha de S. Tome. Notas sobre a familia Sphingidae.

English. In the present paper, 15 species of Sphingidae are referred to the S. Tome Island. The dimensions and the relatively high number of captured specimens (on the basis of the duration and of the difficulties of the capture), suggest a good adaptation of some of the studied taxa to the local conditions. The occurrence in S. Tome of the noticed species is not unusual, as all of them have high flight capacity and also extended geographical distribution, which, in some cases, surpasses the African continent.

As dimensoes e o numero relativamente elevado de exemplares, atendendo a duracao do periodo de captura e as circunstancias em que esta decorreu, sugerem uma boa adaptacao de algumas especies ao condicionalismo local. A existencia em S. Tome das especies estudadas nao constitui surpresa, porquanto todas tem grande capacidade de voo e extensa area de distribuicao geografica, que, em alguns casos, ultrapassa o continente africano.
