Extraction of whole hipfruit, hipseed and hippel was studied with carbondioxide, propane-carbondioxide and propane as solvent under super- and sub critical conditions. The percentage of extracts obtained from seed, from whole hipfruit and from hippeel was found to be 5,7-6,7; 3-3,5 and 0,32-0,42 percent respectively. The rates of solvent to plant material required to attain a complete extraction were found to be 10 percent applying CO2 at 35 degrees C and 250 bar, 3 using a solvent mixture rich in propane at 28 degrees C and 100 bar, and it was 1,1 with propane at 25 degrees C and 50 bar. The carotene content of extracts was determined. It was found that the carotene content of hipseed is low. The extracts obtained from whole hipfruit contained carotene in high amount primarily deriving from the hippeel with a carotene content of 1831 microgram. The oils in hipseed, flaxseed and grapeseed are known to be good solvents of carotenoids. It was stated that in the oil from hip the unsaturated c18 fatty acids are the dominating constituents in form of triglycerides (more than 90). The most abundant of them (52-55 percent) is the linoleic acid (C18:2) but the linoleic acid (C13:2) content is also considerable.
