Comparative investigations of different additives for lucerne silage making have been carried out in the experimental silos. The treatments were as follows: 0; 1.2% sugar; 4.0% molasses; 0,05% silage inoculant Pioneer 1177; 3% dehydrated whey; 6% ground corn; 6% dry sugar beet pulp; 0.5% formaldehyde. The analyses were carried out initially, after 35,96 and 275 days, respectively. In relation to green lucerne, the dry matter of silage was increased on average by 4.53, 9.59 and 23.25 per cent, respectively. After fermentation, the dry matter content was higher, in control by 3.33%, with sugar, 0.94%, with molasses, 1.98%, with inoculant 2.83%, with whey 1.76%, with corn, 11.08%, with dry sugar beet pulp, 14.16% and with formaldehyde 3.20%. Tendency of dry matter increase continued up to 275 days. Also increased was the net energy in the majority of silages. After fermentation, the control silage had less net energy, by 6.63% and those with addition of sugar and whey, by 1.27 and 5.06%, respectively. However, in the course of time an increase of net energy occurred in all silages, from 12.29% in control, to 26.58% in the silage treated by ground corn and dry sugar beet pulp. The crude protein content followed the pattern of energy. After 35 days, the highest pH was in silage with ground corn, 4.8, while in other silages that value ranged within limits of pH 5.15 to 5.75.. After 35 days from ensiling the presence of butyric acid was noted in all silages. The highest amount was in control, and the lowest in the silage treated with the inoculant Pioneer 1177. Further on, the butyric acid was not found. All the silages had the content of bacteria and fungi within tolerant limits. On day 275, the presence of yeasts has been found.
