Effect of different levels of nitrogen and phosphorus alone and in combination on growth, maturity and yield of pea cultivar P-8.

Investigations were undertaken to study the effect of various levels of nitrogen and phosphorus, each (40-80 kg/acre) alone and in combination on growth, fruit set, maturity and yield of pea cultivar P-8. Maximum height (202.91cm) of the plants was obtained by the application of nitrogen + phosphorus each at 80 kg/acre. Highest fruit set (84.76%) was on plants that received 40 kg nitrogen/acre as compared to 64.62% by application of 40 kg phosphorus. Significantly least days (94.25) were taken to first picking by the application of 80 kg phosphorus/acre as compared to 106.3 days by 80 kg nitrogen acre. The highest number of pickings (6) were taken by highest dose of nitrogen while highest yield/picking (1.4 kg), per plot (8.38 kg) and per hectare (13.95 tonnes) was obtained by application of nitrogen and phosphorus each at the rate of 40 kg/ha. Maximum number of pods/plant (39.75) were obtained from plots that received the highest dose of phosphorus. Size and weight of a nodule was significantly highest by the application of 60 kg nitrogen + 80 kg phosphorus/acre.
