The effect of the gradual substitution of extracted soybean meal for extracted sunflower meal with lysine and methionine-hydroxy-analog supplementation (Napliz-B(TM)) was studied in broiler chicken feeding experiments on the feed consumption, weight gain, feed efficiency and slaughter quality, with or without compensation of the crude protein and metabolizable energy levels in the feeds. The 25, 50, 75 or 100 percent substitutions of the soybean meal being present in the control grower type feed for Napliz-B(TM) without compensation of crude protein and metabolizable energy levels resulted in a gradual decrease in the closing body weights and an increase in feed efficiency, however these differences were not significant. At 50 percent substitution of the extracted soybean meal a complementary effect could be observed between soybean and sunflower meal as it was shown by an increase in the closing weight of this group. The 50 or 75 percent substitution of sunflower meal for Napliz-B(TM) with compensation of the crude protein protein- and metabolizable energy levels in the feeds, resulted in an improved performance compared to the control group. At 100 percent substitution of soybean meal for Napliz-B(TM) with compensation of the crude protein- and metabolizable energy levels in the feeds the weight gain and feed efficiency values proved to be equal with those of the control group. There were no significant differences in slaughter quality (meat percentage, valuable parts, abdominal fat, organoleptic properties) among the groups with or without crude protein and energy compensation of the feeds.
