A total of 57 isolates of Aspergillus niger were isolated from rice corn and soybean. Extracts of four isolates including No.24, 28, 49 and 58 effectively inhibited mycelial growth of A. flavus at low pH. Maize grain with 24 and 25 % moisture content were treated with these extracts at two rates, 1:1 and 1:2 by w/v. At a rate 1:1, extract from isolate No. 49 and No. 54 reduced aflatoxin production down to 40 and 30 ppb within 5 and 10 days respectively. However, the treatment rate at 1:2 failed to reduced the production of aflatoxin. Aflatoxin was not detected within 10 days when maize grain with 23 % moisture content was treated with 10 % citric acid extracted from A. niger. Nevertheless, when maize grains with 24 and 28 % moisture contents were treated, 22.5 and 12 % of A. flavus and 35 and 30 ppb of aflatoxin were detected.
