One hundred and sixty seven faba bean (Vicia faba L.) cultivars were evaluated for: plant height, 50% flowering period, number of seeds per pod, 1000 seeds weight, position of the first pod, number of seeds per pod, 1000 seeds weight, position of the first pod, pod set (in percent) and yield (in percent of the contiguous control) for two years in one location (University farm) by the contigous control method. The best nine of these cultivars were further tested for two years in a randomized complete-block design. During the last year evaluation was extended in two locations (University farm and FCRI of Larissa). The results showed that faba bean varieties selected by the contiguous control method maintained their superiority when tested in a replicated design. The best variety (A151) outyielded the control variety Polycarpe by 59% in Thessaloniki and by 64% in Larissa.
