Polder soils have been formed on parent material composed of silt loamy sand and silt loam in the process of gleying. As in these soils water movement downward through all the horizons is restricted, great difficulties are caused in their effective drainage. Investigations of polder soils in Kalnciems and Ruduli (Latvia) carried out by the students of Latvia University of Agriculture in the period of four years are described. Investigation results are discused, the resulting data are presented in tables showing the granulometric content of Kalnciems polder soils, the physical properties in the microlief hollows, the differential porosity of compressed glay layers and the agrochemical properties of alluvial glay soils.
