The effect of such herbicides as tuligen and targa generally used in flax fields at present is discussed. Their dependence on weed species and other negative properties of these herbicides are pointed out. The experiments with several new herbicides (chizel, harmonium, levanil) carried out at Vilani St.Plantbreeding and Experiment Station in 1993-1994 are described. The ability of the new herbicides not to affect the quality of flax straw and seeds is emphasized. The experimental data are shown in tables.
