Nutrition situation of children and mothers in Bangladesh.
1981
Abdullah M.
The nutrition situation of children and mothers in Bangladesh has been reviewed. Two nation-wide nutrition surveys, one in 1962-64 and the other in 1975-76 were conducted in the country. The findings of these surveys revealed a widespread prevalence of malnutrition, particularly affecting the growing children and pregnant and nursing mothers. About 74% of the under-five age group of children are nutritionally stunted and 22% wasted. Deficiencies of several micro-nutrients are also widespread. Infant and child mortality rates are very high, ranging between 130 to 170 and 20 and 25 per 1000 respectively.
