One budded leaf cuttings of 7 citrus varieties, i.e. Citron, Citrus hystrix, Rough lemon (RL), Sour orange, Ragi, Mexican lime and Japanese Citroen (JC), were subjected to 2 rootone (growth substance) treatments, viz, with or without dipping in rootone solution, and to 2 temperatures of the growing media, viz, under normal green house temperature (23 deg C.), or under slightly elevated temperature (32 deg C. by using hotbeds). Growing media was a mixture of soil, manure and fine sand (1 : 1 : 1), and all experiments were carried out in Segunung (1,100 m above sea level), West Java (Indonesia). Results showed that rootone and hotbed media did not necessarily stimulate growth of roots and shoots of citrus leaf cuttings. Best shoot growth was performed by Citron RL and JC in hotbed media. Rootone did not significantly affect shoot growth of Citron and RL, whereas the best shoot growth was performed by JC without rootone. Largest number of leaves were produced by Citron and RL in hotbed media, and by JC in normal media. Hotbed media and rootone stimulated the rooting of JC leaf cuttings, however, root formation of C. hystrix was significantly more abundant in normal media without rootone. Hotbed media and rootone did not significantly affect root formation of Citron, RL, JC, Mexican lime and Ragi.
