Effect of phosphorus doses on the growth yield and quality of summer Mung (Vigna radiata L. Wilczek) and soil nitrogen.

Experiment on summer mung variety S-8 carried out at Agricultural Research Farm, Meerut Univ., Meerut during 1977 and 1978 revealed that application of phosphorus had no effect on the growth of summer mung; while number of pods/plant, weight of pods/plant, weight of grains/plant, number of grains/pod, number of grains/plant, grain yield, dry matter and harvest index were found to be increased with increasing levels of phosphorus from zero to 50 kg P2O5/ha. Phosphorus content, total phosphorus uptake and soil nitrogen at harvest were also found to be affected by the application of phosphorus and maximum 'P' content of grain was recorded with the application of 75 kg P2O5/ha and 50 kg P2O5/ha during 1977 and 1978 respectively. Maximum soil nitrogen was, however, in the treatment of 50 kg P2O5/ha.
