Preliminary investigation on general performances of 24 breeding lines of sunflower from CSIRO, Australia at Kampangsan Campus, Kasetsart University, Nakorn Pathom during January to August 1983 in order to seek the adapted lines and to produce the oil seeds for the production of liquid fuel to substitute diesel fuel oils were done. It was found that breeding lines with best growth performances showing tall stalk, large flower size, early maturity, high seed yield and high percentage of oil content were: Sirosun 157 R-4, Sirosun 117 R-1, Sirosun 152 R-1, Sirosun 117 R-4 Sirosun 152 R-4 and Sirosun 156 R-3. While breeding lines with good growth performance producing low seed yield but gave high percentage of oil content were: Sirosun 156 R-1, Sirosun A-89, Sirosun B-89, Sirisun 132 R-2 and Sirosun 143 R. On the other hand, Breeding lines with poor growth performances showed low percentage of oil content were: Sirosun 146 R-5 and Sirosun 155 R. However, by average all sunflower lines produce variably between 200-300 kgs/rai of head weight or 40-150 kgs/rai of seed weight. Based on 30-40 % of oil content, approximately 15-60 kgs/rai of oil were estimated.
