Studies on growth and productivity of buffalo gourd (Cucurbita foetidissima) were done at Kampangsaen Campus, Kasetsart University, Nakorn Pathom during March to August 1983. It was found that buffalo gourd could be grown and produced fruits succesfully in Thailand even its adaptation to our climate was not quite well. Buffalo gourd was a groundcover vine with the average vine length 2.26 m. in two-month-old plants. The plants were monoecious having both staminate and pistillate flowers. The staminate flowers were higher in number and matured earlier than the pistillate ones. The plants produced four fruits per plant in average and each fruit was somewhat round with a diameter of 8.43 cm. and weighed 155.48 g. The number of seed per fruit was 299, with an average fresh and dry weight per fruit of 25.82 and 13.15 g. respectively. Harvesting was carried out at 80-105 days after planting. The roots after harvesting had an average size of 34.65 cm. long and 4 cm. wide.
