The magnitude of heterosis of yield and its components and correlations among agronomic characters were studied in the F2 population of 11 soybean crosses. Only the F2 - families of Clark 63 x SJ 4 exhibited significant yield heterobeltiosis of 23.0 percent, other crosses were not significantly higher than their high parents. Other characters such as days to flower, days to harvest, seed size, plant height of lowest pod performed negative heterobeltiosis value but most F2's were not significantly different from midparent. As compared to its parents, the F2 soybeans varied in plant height but not in height of lowest pod. Phenotypic means of the F3 population in most crosses did not differ significantly from its F2. Types of gene action controlling heterosis of yield in F2 soybeans were complete dominance to overdominance. Genes controlling number of pods per plant expressed both additive and dominance effect whereas those controlling seed size, plant height, height of the lowest pod, days to flower and days to harvest in most crosses expressed additive gene action. Data obtained from the F3 population also confirmed the conclusion drawn from the relationship between F2 and its parents. Correlations between number of pods and seed yield per plant were positive which revealed that number of pods per plant was the most important yield component in these F2 populations. Seed yield per plant was positively correlated with seed size, days to flower, days to harvest, plant height, and height of the lowest pod in some crosses.
