The Boianu-Sticleanu-Calarasi area is, from geomorphological point of view, a fragment of Danube flood plain. The soils are represented by undeveloped (63,3 percent), hydromorphic soils (34,9 percent) and some mollisols (3,8 percent). Though besides of irrigation the melioration system was equipped with a drainage network, important surfaces are still affected by moisture excess and salinity. To that the low permeability of soils and parent materials as well as the weak working of the drainage canals contributed. To an integral exploitation of the hydro-meliorative system, a density of the drainage network as well as the keeping in good conditions of the canals are required.
