The total selenium (HF-HNO3-HCLO4 extractable) content of mineral soil samples collected from profiles of 13 different Estonian soils was analyzed. Overall mean Se-content was 172 ppb (from 10 to 443 ppb), respective value for plough layer samples was 188 ppb (from 66 to 370) and for sub-surfacelayers 132 ppb (from 10 to 332 ppb). The highest total Se content was found in organogenic soil (614 ppb). In plough layer samples there was remarkable correlation between content of humus and soil total Se content. In case of mineral soils the correlation between soil texture and total Se content was also found.
