Incubation studies on the influence of variable amounts of sodium (0 to 12%) and magnesium (0 to 2%) chlorides in muriate of potash on K and Na saturation in a vertisol and an alfisol by applying K at 500, 1000 and 2000 kg/ha indicated that K saturation in the vertisol increased with the sodium chloride content at 0.3% magnesium chloride in the muriate of potash while in case of alfisol, the increase was observed at the low level of K application (500 kg K/ha). The ESP, however, decreased, in both the soils with increase in sodium chloride content.
