Artemia cultured using different feeds: wheat flour, rice bran and milled rice extract. Details of feed preparation were given. Artemia were cultured up to acertain size, then a feeding experiment was conducted to test their nutritional value for larvae of Penaeus monodon, with emphasis on their fatty acid composition. Proximate chemical analysis of feeds and Artemia were carried out and results showed that the lowest levels of crude protein, fat and fiber occurred in Artemia fed milled rice extract, while the survival rate of P. monodon was highest with this diets. Total body lipid content of post experimental shrimp was higher than that of the pre-experimental shrimp. The fatty acid composition of shrimp was generally related to the fatty acid patterns of the diets. Ratios of w3/w6 fatty acids in Artemia were also discussed. The nutritional value of Artemia to shrimp larvae could be improved by incorporation of polyunsaturated fatty acid through the diets.
