Behaviour of tomato plants grown under hot weather conditions as influenced by some growth regulators application [Egypt].

Two field experiments were carried out under not weather conditions of summer seasons of 1983 and 1984, to study the effect of some plant growth regulators named: Alar (1000, 2000, and 3000 ppm); CCC (1000, 2000, and 3000); Ethrel (50, 100, 200 ppm); GA3 (25, 50, and 100 ppm); and NAA (5, 25, and 50 ppm), on growth, flowering and fruiting of tomato plants. GA3 at 25 ppm and ethrel at 100 ppm gave the highest total plant dry weight flowering rate show the common (s) shaped-curve of growth. Whereas, fruiting curves were not similary to those of flowering i.e., number of fruits developed weekly, even slightly increased or slightly decreased, but generally the peack of fruits number of most treatment were after four weeks from flowering peak. Except ethrel treatments, other plant growth regulators improved number of setting fruits/ plant, whereas only alar (2000 ppm), CCC (1000 and 2000 ppm), GA3 (50 ppm) and NAA (25 and 50 ppm) gave the highest flowers number/ plant comparing to the control. Morever, GA3 and NAA treatments generally enhanced fruit developing time. Also, GA3 at 100 ppm gave the highest total yield in both planting season, as a result of increasing fruit weight and fruit set percentage.
