1996
Groehn Wittern U.
Two UN organizations - the FAO and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) - are involved in the ongoing discussion on the conservation of plant genetic resources. Their concepts are based on different approaches and sometimes even overlap. Whilst the FAO action plan views the conservation of plant genetic resources from the standpoint of agricultural production and food security, the UNEP convention focusseson the conservation of biological diversity in the wider sense. Both documents -the FAO undertaking as well as the UNEP convention -stressin-situ conservation and the sustainable use of plant genetic resources.
