Oral papilloma in young buffalo calves. Note.

In the present report clinical observations are presented on an outbreak of papilloma in buffalo calves. The lesions were located around lips, muzzle, around the chin, inside the nostrils, over the tongue and also in the buccal cavity extending as deep as up to pharynx. The affected calves were unable to suckle the mother and drink the milk. Such lesions bled profusely; moreover because of necrotic debris in the depth of the papillae, an unpleasant odour emanated from the tumour. The affected calves showed temperature ranging from 102 deg to 106 deg F and gradually went down in condition and succumbed in about 10 days period. Almost similar symptoms were observed by Grlesemer and Cole (1961). During the course of illness, the calves were given conventional treatment including sulphonamides, antibiotics, cortisone and other local antiseptics and with the supportive treatment of liver extract and vitamins. In addition to this, it was attempted to remove the tumours, surgically but this led to profuse haemorrhage.
