The effect of cutting and burning on the variation of floristic composition in the hills of Chittagong University campus was studied quantitatively be random quadrat method during May 1983 through April 1984. The study was made in 3 sites having 6 sub-sites and 18 stands located at 2 different elevation, and on 3 aspects of the hills. Each sub-site consisted of 3 sections treated as control, cut and burnt stands. A total of 105 plants were recorded where 96 plants were present in control, 98 plants in cut and 100 in burnt stands. No marked variation in the floristic composition was observed amongst the treatments in the first year of the study period.
