Alfalfa was ensiled with ground maize in the amounts of 2, 4, and 6, with molasses of 1, 2 and 3, and with HCOOH of 0.15, 0.30 and 0.45 of the silage mass. The results showed the following: Ground maize reduces crude proteins, crude fiber and ash, but at the same time increases dry matter level and nutritive value. Additives used contributed to a slight pH value decrease, entire absence of NH3 in silages with ground maize, as well as to NH3-N content decrease by 12.5 times in silages with higher dose of HCOOH in relation to control. Butyric acid was found in control silage and in traces in silage with molasses of 3. Lactic acid production is the highest in silages with molasses, and then in those with ground maize. In silages with HCOOH dose increase it tends to reduce. The general conclusion would be that alfalfa silage mass with about 280 g/kg of dry matter cannot be successfully ensiled without additives.
