The study including 1 Yugoslav alfalfa cultivar and 5 foreign alfalfa varieties. The study was conducted on a chernozem soil type in the period from 1991 to 1993. According to the achieved results, the highest yield of green mass was achieved with the varieties Boreal (58.6 t/ha) and OS (58.1 t/ha). The Yugoslav cultivar Morava 1 gave significantly lower yield (54.4 t/ha). The highest yield of dry matter was achieved with the cultivar OS-66 (13.7 t/ha), followed by Boreal (13.5 t/ha). New Yugoslav cultivar Morava 1 had the highest average content of dry matter (25.5).
