Research was conducted at Gelumbang Agricultural Farm of Sriwijaya University in rainy and dry season of 1988. Objectives of the researh were to evaluate growth, nutrient absorption, and yield of chilli pepper (Capsicum annuum L.) in monoculture and multiple cropping systems. Three lowland tropical vegetable crops used were corn, cowpea, and cucumber. Result of the research indicated that absolute growth rate was affected by cropping system in rainy season but not in dry season. Differences in plant height due to cropping system were observed only in dry season. Nutrient content in plant tissue was higher in plants grown in rainy season. Amongst multiple cropping system evaluated, the highest yield was found in pepper/cucumber intercropping.
