Investigations were made on the occurrence of variation ranges of 14 features most important from the standpoint of mechanical culture and yielding of plants in two cultivars of peas used for canning caused by direct effects and after-effects of the insecticide Ambush 25 EC on the plants. A diversified response of cultivars was found. The features most variable after plant spraying, with an effect continuing to appear in the two consecutive years after spraying, were: the number of nodes below the first flower, the length of the internode below the first pod, the number of pods per plant, the mass of seeds per plant and the mass of 1000 seeds. An increased variation of features occurred already with the concentration recommended for use in agricultural practice i.e. 0.025 percent but the optimum concentration was 0.050 percent. The observed phenomenon of increased variation of features effected by spraying plants with Ambush 25 EC is significant when selecting single plants, as this increases the likelihood of their correct selection when breeding new cultivars of peas.
