The paper presents the results obtained by examining the contents of lead, cadmium, mercury, arsenic and copper on muscle tissue, liver, and kidneys in pigs, cattle and sheep. The results showing the contents of the toxic elements in the same tissue and animal groups were compared among the regions. The contents of the previously mentioned elements were also examined on a small number of spleen, brain, heart and tongue samples in pigs and cattle, as well as on lungs and tripes in cattle. The contents of the toxic elements were examined on canned meat, too. The results obtained were analysed from the viewpoint of legal regulations which showed great differences in the prescribed limits of the toxic elements among some countries.
