"Namweonbyeo" was developed from a cross between Akiyudaka/Samnambyeo at Honam Crop Experiment Station, Rural Development Administration in 1989. Namweonbyeo has an erect plant type, early maturity, high yielding potential, resistance to blast and tolerance to cold. But this cultivar is susceptible to bacterial leaf blight, virus diseases and most insect pests. Namweonbyeo has good milling recovery and high ratio of ripened grains as well as clear grain appearance and good eating quality. The yield potential of "Namweonbyeo" is higher than that of Odaebyeo and that of Sobaegbyeo under both the ordinary and the heavy fertilizer levels. The variety is adaptable to the mid-mountainous and alpine regions.
