Effect of four lighting regimes on the performance of broilers.

Commercial type broiler chicken were used to investigate the effect of different photoperiods on body weight, feed conversion during 8 week experimental period. Broilers subjected to natural light (12L:12D), continuous light (24L:OD), fixed light (18L:6D) and intermittent light (1L:3D at night) regimes with window house. Broilers subjected to an intermittent light regime consisting of 1 hr of light and 3 hr of darkness at night were significantly heavier (p < 0.01) at 56 days of age when compared to broilers receiving continuous illumination. Feed conversions were not significantly affected.
