Proposition d' une methode de controle des populations de Scaphoideus titanus Ball dans le vignoble.

A monitoring method for the estimation of Scaphoideus titanus populations is proposed. It is based on visual sampling of the larval population from mid-May until the first appearance of the neanids of the 4th larval stage and on the use of yellow sticky traps until the end of season. The spatial distribution of larvae on the shoot allowed to define that for visual sampling, a leaf must be chosen at random on the first half of the shoot, between the 2nd and 6th leaf. The method with the yellow traps consists in the use of Aeroxon traps, placed horizontally within the plant canopy. This method is suitable for catching S. titanus adults, since they are more mobile than the immature forms. The number of sticky traps necessarily depends on the population density and reliability of the estimate required. The method is very suitable either for insecticide trials or monitoring in vineyards. In the latter case the use of 14 to 16 traps allows to estimate a population of 5 and 4 S. titanus adults per trap, respectively, with a sufficient degree of precision and at moderate cost.
